Legendary Shack Shakers
Legendary Shack Shakers
The Legendary Shack Shakers’ hell-for-leather roadshow has earned quite a name for itself with its unique brand of Southern Gothic that is all-at-once irreverent, revisionist, dangerous, and fun. Led by their charismatic, rail-thin frontman and blues-harpist JD Wilkes, the Shack Shakers are a four-man wrecking crew from the South whose explosive interpretations of the blues, punk, rock and country have made fans, critics and legions of potential converts into true believers.

After taking more than a year off to work on other projects (including JD Wilkes's book "Barn Dances & Jamborees Across Kentucky"), the band is re-mobilizing in the fall of 2014 much to the excitement of many a Shack Shaker fanatic. Despite the group’s time off, their reputation for intensity has stuck with them.

On stage, JD has been compared to the likes of Iggy Pop, David Byrne, and Jerry Lee Lewis. The Nashville Scene named Wilkes “the best frontman in Nashville” in 2002, while former Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra has called JD “the last great Rock and Roll frontman.” Having joined the band in early 2012, garage blues guitar player Rod Hamdallah--who also lends his prowess to Wilkes's side project ‘JD Wilkes and the Dirt Daubers'--is back in the Shack Shakers’ lineup. The rhythm section is rounded out with Brett Whitacre on drums and Mark Robertson thumping out the upright bass.

Although not legendary upon being named, the band has grown into its reputation the last several years due to their heavy tour schedule, six critically acclaimed studio albums, and songs that have been featured on television shows such as HBO’s True Blood. Past tour mates and fans include Reverend Horton Heat, Rancid, The Black Keys, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, and Hank Williams III. Robert Plant is also a noted Legendary Shack Shakers fan, and picked the band to open for him on his 2005 tour of Europe. Plant named the band's third albumBelieve as one of his favorite records of 2005. The list of esteemed admirers goes on to include horror novelist Stephen King, who listed “CB Song” as among his iPod’s Top Five in a 2008 Entertainment Weekly article. Such a wealth of devoted fans over the years has only added to the mystique that the Legendary Shack Shakers possess, carrying them down the road toward new creative pursuits and barn-shaking tunes.
The Brains
The Brains
More Brrraaaaaiiinnnsss!!!
Canada's most insanest, undeadest and bestest psychobilly horror-punks are back with with their latest, greatest album to date.

The Brains has never been a band to follow the rules…in fact they've made it a point to utterly and completely destroy every single one of them with each album they release and every show they play. These hardworking road-warriors have brought their eye-popping live show to the four corners of the world; playing packed houses throughout Europe, Canada and the US alongside acts like Mad Sin, The Offspring, The Reverend Horton Heat, The Real McKenzies, The Creepshow and many more. A relentless tour schedule is in the works for 2013 that includes stops at CMW, PouzzaFest and The Pineda Psychobilly Meeting in Spain.

The Monster Within is an unholy collection of 14 mind-bendingly brain-melting tracks that will explode in your earholes like a hell-born volcano. The impossibly fast and unbelievably tight rhythm section of Pat Kadaver (skins) and Colin The Dead (stand up bass) threaten to push the limits of sanity and safety to the very edge… Rene D La Muerte's (vox/gretsch) haunting croon sends shivers up the spines of even the most jaded listener while his signature guitar stylings fuse the rockabilly sounds of the 50's with the intensity of an industrial chainsaw. The Brains continue to blur the lines between rockabilly, psycho, surf, punk and rock n' roll; kicking down genre barriers and demanding undying loyalty at every show they play. Incorporating elements from whatever the hell they feel like, The Brains concoct an irresistable brew of Motorhead-esque ferocity and sexed up latin swagger while adding a pinch of rockabilly revival and a whole lot of booze-fueled punk rock mayhem.

Bio 2012:

Drunk Not Dead is an unholy collection of mind-bendingly ear-scorching tracks that grab you by the neck, stare straight into your eyes and dare you to fight back. The impossibly fast, tight rhythm section of Pat Kadaver (skins) and Colin The Dead (stand up bass) threaten to push the limits of sanity and safety to the very edge… Rene D La Muerte's (vox/gretsch) haunting croon sends shivers up the spines of even the most jaded listener while his signature guitar stylings fuse the rockabilly sounds of the 50's with the intensity of a chainsaw-wielding maniac in a pitch black room full of teenagers. The Brains continue to blur the lines between rockabilly, psycho, punk and rock n' roll; kicking down genre barriers and demanding undying loyalty at every show they play. Incorporating elements from whatever the hell they feel like, The Brains concoct an irrestible brew of Motorhead-esque ferocity and sexed up latin swagger while adding a pinch of new-wave and a whole lot of booze-fueled punk rock mayhem.

The Brains are as versatile as they are deadly. "Pourquoi Me Laisser" is a poignant heart-wrencher sung entirely in French, while "Gato Calavera" is a proper raging Spanish shout-out to one of the baddest-ass concert venues in Mexico. All in all, Drunk Not Dead is a balls to the wall heart-stopper of an album from one of the hardest working bands in the biz….If you see The Brains in your town, be sure to approach with extreme caution, buy them a beer and be prepared to get swept into their apocalyptic world of never-ending parties, insanity and pure sinfulness….because one thing's for sure; The Brains are Drunk Not Dead!

2015 UPDATE!!!

Montreal's reigning vamps of punk-fuelled psychobilly pandemonium are set to unleash their seventh and most bone-chilling album to date.

The Brains don't fuck around. In the last year alone, they've toured Canada in support of The Reverend Horton Heat and The Nekromantix, completed two wildly successful European tours, played a circle-pit-inducing set at HEAVY MTL and even sold out 2 massive headlining shows in Russia. Their dark and disturbing music videos count in the hundreds of thousands of views and their ever-growing legion of fans are some of the most rabid on the planet. Not ones to be pinned down by genre labels, The Brains seamlessly blend rockabilly, horror, punkrock, new-wave, metal and sexed-up Latin swagger to create a signature sound that is beyond comparison.

Out In The Dark is a perfect example of The Brains' ability to smash down genre walls with eleven killer tracks of blistering Gretsch guitar, machine-gun percussion and relentless stand-up bass. After seven albums, the band have honed their craft to a level above exceptional, beyond tightness and surpassing awesome. Don't be left Out In The Dark. Look for The Brains on tour everywhere starting Oct 30th!
