Pink Martini @ Fox: Storm Large to fill in for China Forbes

CHINA FORBES UNDERGOES VOCAL SURGERY, TAKES LEAVE OF ABSENCE FROM PINK MARTINI STORM LARGE JOINS BAND FOR SELECT EUROPEAN & US DATES
It is with great concern we announce the news that our singer China Forbes must take an extended leave of absence of at least one year to undergo surgery on her vocal cords. China had initially discovered the injury to her voice earlier this year, and it was hoped that extreme vocal rest would heal her. But after careful consultation and on the advice from multiple specialists, she has made the difficult decision to move forward with surgery.
The heartfelt wishes and support of the entire Pink Martini family are with her as she undergoes surgery and recovery. Though it is difficult to predict exactly what the future will hold and how quickly she will be able to recover, we very much hope to welcome China back to the stage with Pink Martini as soon as her health permits, and we anticipate many more fruitful collaborations in the years to come. Pink Martini will continue to tour and record music throughout China's absence from the stage. We look forward to presenting our amazingly supportive and loyal fans many exciting collaborations with guest and interim vocalists over the next several months.
For the band's September 28-October 21 European Dates and November 8-20 US performances Pink Martini will be joined by the tremendously talented Storm Large.
Storm Large made her debut with Pink Martini in April 2011 stepping in for China Forbes to lead four sold-out concerts with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. She also appeared with the band at Sasquatch Music Festival, winning over a crowd of 15,000, and traveled with Pink Martini during the band's first ever tour of Brazil in May. "I have adored the fabulous Storm Large ever since she moved to Portland a decade ago, and I always hoped we could find a way to collaborate," says Pink Martini bandleader Thomas Lauderdale. "She is a brilliant, beautiful, charismatic and seductive star who would give Jayne Mansfield a run for her money. While we are disappointed that China is unable to perform with us, I am delighted be able to introduce Storm Large to new audiences."
Storm Large has been singing since the age of five. A graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, Large moved to San Francisco and later to Portland, where she founded her band Storm and The Balls. The Balls developed a cult-like following in clubs for their "mash up" renditions of artists such as ABBA, Billy Idol, Led Zeppelin and Olivia Newton-John as well as their own compositions. Large shot to national prominence in 2006 as a finalist on the CBS show Rock Star: Supernova. In 2009 she performed her autobiographical musical memoir Crazy Enough to packed houses during its unprecedented 17-week sold-out run at Portland Center Stage. Recently Large performed the show to critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Joe's Pub in New York and throughout Australia. Crazy Enough is scheduled to appear Off-Broadway in Spring 2012 and a book version of her autobiography will be published by Simon & Schuster in this coming January. Large made her orchestral debut with the Oregon Symphony in 2010 and will appear with her own band again with the Oregon Symphony later this season. Storm made her debut with Pink Martini in April 2011 singing four sold-out concerts with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, joined the band on their first ever tour in Brazil in May 2010, and appeared throughout the United States this summer, including performances at Central Park's Summerstage and with the Minnesota Orchestra. Storm has released seven albums and made guest star appearances on at least a dozen others.
