to close 2017 Arizona International Film Festival

Closing Night at the 2017 Arizona International Film Festival will present THE TUCSON HAPPENING, a program combining live music, performance and film, on Sunday, April 30, 7:00pm at The Rialto Theatre, 318 East Congress in downtown Tucson. Admission is $6.00.

A highlight of the program is the world premiere of “TUCSON HOT DAMN” by award-winning Canadian filmmaker, Jefferson Moneo. “TUCSON HOT DAMN” is described as a magical ride through “The Weird Capital of the World," featuring the music of Billy Sedlmayr, Brian Lopez and Gabriel Sullivan.

“For the past decade, I’ve been making the pilgrimage to Tucson for the Arizona International Film Festival. There’s a reason I keep coming back. Over the years, I’ve met artists, musicians, dancers, acrobats, iconoclasts, outlaws, and a whole host of beautiful freaks on the margins. Last year I made a film about some of them. Rather than merely show the results of that effort, I decided to bring some of these artists together for one singular evening of music + performance + film.” – Jefferson Moneo

THE TUCSON HAPPENING will feature Billy Sedlmayr, one of the most articulate and honest singer/songwriter and storytellers in Tucson; the Golden Boots Tropical Trio, an electro-tropical version of the long running local combo Golden Boots, featuring Dimitri Manos, Ryen Eggleston and Jeff Grubic; and Flam Chen, Tucson’s internationally renowned aerialist, acrobatic and pyrotechnic troupe. Master of Ceremonies will be Magic Kenny Bang Bang, Tucson’s magician/impresario. Other acts (and possibly films) are likely to be added to the bill.
