Lukie D
Lukie D
Lukie D. reggae's vocalist sensation, is well known for his interpretation of Ed Sheeran "Thinking Out Loud". His pristine voice and incredible vocal range, has made him a darling of reggae fans around the world, especially in Europe, where he has performed at every Reggae Festival, over the years. His early influences included Frankie Paul, Tenor Saw and ragga DJ Supercat.
In the 1990's, Lukie D, who started as a Dancehall Deejay, joined the Firehouse Crew, noted for fostering the career of Luciano and Sizzla. He released his biggest hit, "Center of Attraction", featuring combinations with Mikey Spice and DJ Determine, while with Fire house Crew, alongside combination hits with Lieutenant Stitche "Don't Deny Me" and Beenie Man and Black Pearl "Bag It Up". His other hits includes, "I won't Let You Go", "Lonely Nights", "Let Me Love You Now", "Heavy Load" and "You've Got It Going". In 1997, Lukie D. released a 20-track cover versions of the music of ACDC, "You Shook Me" and Queen's "We Will Rock You"
Though born in Jamaica, from a musical family, his stepfather, Devon Russell was a member of the Sugar Belly Band. Lukie D's childhood years in the choir, and his teenage years in Detroit, exposed him to a variety of music styles and genre. A choir boy, whose singing of Jazz standards or country and western songs, is as good as his renditions of cantatas, has managed to combine a variety of these styles into his music. This exposure to diverse musical influences, resulting in the broadening of his repertoire, makes him one of the unique voices of our time. He has travelled all over the world performing in countries from Europe to Asia, and USA to the Caribbean. His first featured film "Lukie D" will be released in the Fall of 2018, and he is currently working on reggae versions of Lee Ann Womack, "I Hope You Dance" and Sting's "Ghost Story".
